Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) Watercraft Inspection Program …

Congratulations to this year's Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) grant recipients! Over 150 organizations received a CBCW grant from the Department of Natural Resources to support local boater and angler outreach efforts at boat landings in 2026. Thank you for taking action and helping share the AIS prevention steps

2026 Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW) Award:

The North and South Twin Lakes District filed for a Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW) Grant of $9800.00 and were approved for up to 75% of costs incurred or $7350.00. Remaining costs of $2450.00 would be covered by the Lake District. This grant is for The Lake District's CBCW program for the 2026 boating season.

In 2026 the Lake District will be providing, with the aid of the DNR grant, 200 hours of watercraft inspection at two of the boat landings, totaling 400 hours. CBCW representatives will be present each of the two Twin public landings on North and South Twin at various times, primarily weekends, throughout the summer boating season. These two landings will be the Millerville Road Boat Landing and the Lakota Road Boat Landing.

The primary objective for these inspectors (college interns) is to educate boaters on preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) and check for all types of invasive species: plant life; bait fish; and mollusks on boats, trailers and in live-wells. Watercraft inspectors talk with boaters and anglers about aquatic invasive species (AIS), show them how to take steps to prevent the spread of AIS, and collect and report data about their outreach efforts. This is an informational campaign, not an enforcement activity. The intent is to help prevent the introduction of aquatic invasive species in Wisconsin’s surface waters or limit the spread of AIS that may already be present.
