We are part of the “Clean Boats Clean Waters” Program
With the growing concern over the spread of aquatic invasive species to among Wisconsin’s waters, many people are looking for ways to get involved. The Clean Boats, Clean Waters watercraft inspection program provides an opportunity to take action and help prevent and contain aquatic invasive species.
Through the Clean Boats, Clean Waters program, participants are trained to organize and conduct a boater education program in their communities. Watercraft inspectors talk with boaters and anglers about aquatic invasive species (AIS), demonstrate how to take steps to prevent the spread of AIS, and collect and report data about their outreach efforts.
We are part of the “Citizen Lake Monitoring (CLMN) Network”
The Citizen Lake Monitoring Network, the core of the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership, creates a bond between over 1,000 citizen volunteers statewide and the DNR. Our goals are to collect high quality data, to educate and empower volunteers and to share this data and knowledge.
Volunteers measure water clarity, using the Secchi Disk method, as an indicator of water quality. Volunteers may also collect chemistry, temperature and dissolved oxygen data, as well as monitor for the first appearance of aquatic invasive species near boat landings, other access points, or along the shoreline.
Welcome to the WDNR "WaterExplorer" Application (WEx)
The WEx tool was designed as a companion tool to the Wisconsin Surface Water Data Viewer (SWDV). The SWDV is a tool that shows maps related to Wisconsin’s water resources, and WEx is a tool that allows users to explore characteristics of Wisconsin’s water resources.
Note: This is where the Citizens Lake Monitoring Network (CLMN) date capture is summarized through the data entered into the WDNR SWIMS database …
EWM “Management and Monitoring Reports”
North and South Twin Lakes, Vilas County, are approximately 2,788- and 642-acre drainage lakes, respectively. North Twin Lake flows into South Twin Lake, and South Twin Lake is drained via the Twin River flowing into Pioneer Lake. The outlet is controlled by a dam operated by the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Corporation (WVIC). Eurasian water milfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum; EWM) was first documented in this system in 2001.
